Meals on Wheels Program Offers Opportunity to Make a Difference in the Community

Did you know our Villa Colombo Toronto ‘Meals on Wheels’ program (MOW) delivers about 600 hot Italian meals each week? This is possible thanks to the dedicated volunteers that give their time and effort to this important program.

Ready-to-eat meals are delivered to people in our community who request the service. Meal delivery takes place Monday to Friday, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. Our neighbours who use the MOW program enjoy a hot, delicious, well-balanced meal dropped off at their door. The program provides a nutritious and affordable meal to those who might not have access to have these meals otherwise. This includes seniors who are recovering from an illness, returning home from the hospital, recovering from surgery or require a special meal plan due to dietary restrictions.

The Meals on Wheels program is run by volunteers who are carefully screened and trained, and live in your community. If you or someone you know has a desire to take on a volunteer opportunity that allows you to spend a couple of hours of time making a difference in the community, please consider volunteering for our Meals on Wheels program.

As a MOW volunteer, your responsibilities may include any of the following:

  1. Packaging food into appropriate containers
  2. Portioning soup/pasta into containers
  3. Sealing the containers
  4. Giving packaged meals to volunteers
  5. Making sure all bags with meals get picked up by required time
  6. Being a runner and dropping off meals
  7. Being a driver and delivering meals
  8. Arranging the bags for cleaning
  9. Helping drivers load food containers into vehicle
