The Fusco Family: True Champions of the Community

As one of Villa Charities' founding families, the Fusco's are among our most devoted supporters. Joe Fusco of Commercial Bakeries has championed many Villa Charities fundraising events and continues to do so. He is a firm believer in giving back to the community and getting involved not only as a volunteer, but also as a sponsor.

Supporting Villa Charities is an important part of the Fusco family life. As Joe states, "We need to continue the work done thus far by my father Anthony along with the many great individuals who made Villa Charities what it is today. We are looking at the next generation to continue the work of ensuring that seniors will always have a home, are treated with respect and are provided with the care they deserve."

Joe's involvement with Villa Charities dates back to the days of the telethon which included guest appearances with the likes of Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida and even Jerry Lewis. He has also volunteered on various boards, supported the Ladies Auxiliary with his family's fundraising efforts and has chaired the Villa Charities' Golf Classic, which is dear to his heart, for over six years.

Joe and his family would like to encourage companies and individuals to participate, whether as volunteers, participants in fundraising events or as donors, to ensure that the Villa Charities legacy continues for generations to come.

If you would like to get involved, please contact the Villa Charities Foundation at 416-789-7011 ext. 337.

Introducing Vlad Soloviev: Instructor for Piano and Theory

Students at the Columbus Centre School of Music are fortunate to receive instruction from great teachers who are also excellent instrumentalists themselves.

This week, we feature Vladimir Soloviev, a Toronto based pianist, accompanist and educator. Vlad's musical education embodies his versatility as an artist. While studying at the University of Western Ontario, he received extensive instruction and experience in collaborative piano and formal pedagogy.

Vlad continues to perform, winning first prize at the UWO's two piano competitions for two consecutive years. While finishing his master's degree at the Eastman School of Music, Vlad has performed extensively in Canada and the US and believes that his insight as an instructor stems from his knowledge of the instrument as well as his love for the art.

Vlad believes in the personal approach to one-on-one music instruction. A malleability of teaching style allows for the material being taught to be adjusted according to the needs of the individual student, facilitating the learning process and yielding a more rewarding and comprehensive learning experience.

Upcoming Fall Cooking Classes

September 18th - Interactive - Pasta Making Workshop

Chef Chris went to Rome to learn how to make pasta from an Italian Chef who has spent her entire life focused on authentic local cuisine. He will teach you her techniques for rolling the pasta, and capture your taste buds in the process. This is Italian cooking at its best, with few ingredients but a whole lot of flavour.

Dishes to be prepared include handmade pasta served with a pork ragout and tossed with pesto or tomato sauce. A variety of bruschetta will be served during the class including classic tomato and basil, and sautéed mushrooms. For dessert: strawberry and balsamic on toasted pound cake.

September 25th - Demo - Elegance and Comfort

Who said fancy food has to be stuffy? What makes the dishes in this class different is the low-fat dressing in the Caesar, the rustic potatoes and the no-hassle dessert. This is comfortable entertaining! The dishes are packed with flavour and easy to prepare. Turn a weeknight meal into a special but relaxing occasion.

On the menu:
