DANZARTS TORONTO

A New Year to Create, Dance and Inspire at DanzArts Toronto!

It's a new year and our classes for 2017 begin this week. We are excited to see everyone back in the studio and look forward to another incredible year at DanzArts Toronto to create, dance and inspire!

We also have new DanzArts sweaters for sale. Parents can place their orders through email at dance@danzartstoronto.com, by phone at 416-789-7011 ext. 250, or by coming to the office. Sweaters are $35 + HST. Deadline to order is January 27, 2017.

Fun fact about dance:

Professional dancers don't get dizzy. Why?
Do you feel dizzy sometimes when you stand up? Does a fear of falling prevent you from exploring the world more? If you are prone to dizziness, a new study has found that dancing may help improve your balance and make you less dizzy. In September 2013, researchers from Imperial College London reported on specific differences in the brain structure of ballet dancers that may help them avoid feeling dizzy when they perform pirouettes. So, you don't have to train to become a professional ballet dancer to benefit from some type of dancing! For more information about DanzArts Toronto, click here

Villa Colombo Toronto collects for the Daily Bread Food Bank

There were lots of holiday season activities and festive celebrations for the residents and staff of Villa Colombo Toronto. Over 1,600 lbs of food were collected for the Daily Bread Food Bank. Villa Colombo Toronto hosted their annual “fill the fountain” campaign to collect donations for the fight against hunger in Toronto. Residents, clients, families, staff, volunteers generously donated non-perishable food items, which were collected in the fountain in the Piazza of Villa Colombo Toronto. This worthwhile initiative is spearheaded by the S.T.A.R. committee (staff thanks and recognition committee) and has been running for over 10 years.

12 Days of Christmas and Festive Traditions
The annual “Giving Tree” campaign was a tremendous success, with Teknion generously sponsoring 80 of the residents in need. The 5th floor hosted their “Open House Gala” and the residents attended other Christmas parties held throughout the home as well, with wonderful entertainers and musicians providing holiday entertainment for all.

Sala Caboto hosted live bands during the “12 Days of Christmas” festivities, including the North Toronto Concert Band, Coro Italia L’Aquila, Knights of Columbus Choir, North Toronto Concert Band, and the Columbus Belle Voci Choir.

Those who visited on Saturday December 3rd were able to have a personal visit with Santa. Pictures were taken and as you can see it was a tremendous attraction for residents, families, and even family pets!

The Befana tradition was also celebrated at Villa Colombo Toronto, with the Befana witch visiting all 391 residents and over 100 community clients generously distributing gifts.

We’d like to express our thanks to all the volunteers who helped with the events, and who made it the successful season that it was.
